Del the Funky Homosapien Closes a Historic ICBC in Vancouver
After the conclusion of the first cannabis conference ever held in a country with a complete legalization law on the books, Vancouver International Cannabis Business Conference attendees will be packing the Studio Lounge and Nightclub at 919 Granville Street for an exclusive performance by hip-hop legend Del the Funky Homosapien. (Bring your ICBC badges attendees!) The conference program officially ended with a”Branding Building 101″ presentation by PRØHBTD Media’s Drake Sutton Shearer.
The ICBC began with a packed ballroom at the beautiful Sheraton Wall Centre hotel for an electrifying keynote address by musician, poet, writer, and activist Henry Rollins. Rollins shared stories from his childhood, his musical career, and travels around the world explaining his journey to transforming into one of the most prominent non-cannabis-using legalization advocates on the globe. Rollins passionately pleaded with cannabis industry participants to remember the need to take care of patients and bring those most harmed by the Drug War (the poor and people of color) into the burgeoning industry.
After Rollins wowed the crowd, the ICBC delved into its program filled with important business and political information. From attorneys Robert Laurie and Kirk Tousaw to Canadian industry icons like Jamie Shaw and Hilary Black, the Vancouver ICBC lineup was top-notch. A unique, and entertaining detour from the usual program was Canopy Rivers‘ “Micro Cannabis, Macro Impact” pitch competition which saw some talented young entrepreneurs compete for seed capital from Canopy Rivers and marketing and branding assistance from Civilized. Congratulations to Bella Vista on winning the “Best Pitch” Award.
The excitement was palpable at the ICBC this year where attendees and speakers were excited about the passage of Canada’s Cannabis Act, but realistic about the regulatory obstacles ahead. In spite of any hurdles, the future is bright for the global cannabis community and everyone involved with the International Cannabis Business Conference is pleased and humbled to play a part in ending the failed and harmful policy of prohibition, step by step, nation by nation.
