How Can Cannabis Companies Remain Profitable In Germany?
The level of excitement surrounding the emerging global cannabis industry right now is enormous, particularly in Germany. As evidence of that, consider that Germany imported over 218 tonnes of medical cannabis products from other legal markets between Q2 2025 and Q1 2026. That is in addition to domestic production, which is increasing with every passing year.
All of that interest in Germany’s emerging legal cannabis industry is resulting in the market becoming more crowded as time goes on, and with it, more competitive. Other factors are also contributing to an evolving German industry landscape. Established cannabis companies in Germany and entities seeking to enter the legal German market are facing an increasingly challenging environment.
Between rising competition among companies and attempts by cannabis opponents within Germany’s government to impede the industry, it is getting harder and harder for current and aspiring industry operators to become profitable, remain profitable, or improve their profit margins. The German cannabis market is truly becoming a survival of the fittest situation.
The topic of how cannabis companies can remain profitable in Germany was discussed at length at the recent International Cannabis Business Conference in Berlin, Germany. A panel titled ‘Surviving and Thriving in Germany’s Cannabis Industry’ was moderated by leading journalist Moritz Förster of krautinvest. Mr. Förster was joined by:
- Finn Age Hänsel, Managing Director & co-Founder, Sanity Group
- Dr. Oliver Stöckel, Partner, SKW Schwarz Rechtsanwälte
- Daniel Kruse, CEO, SYNBIOTIC SE
- Torsten Greif, Founder & CEO, Four 20 Pharma
- David Henn, CEO, Semdor Pharma Group; CEO & Founder, Cannamedical® Pharma GmbH
