Germany’s emerging legal cannabis industry is booming, which is no secret. However, recent reporting by Investing News Network is shedding new insight and helping quantify just how historic the rate of growth is.

“Germany’s medical cannabis market exploded in 2025, with prescriptions surging 3,300 percent from March 2024 to December 2025, per Bloomwell Group’s Cannabis Barometer.” reported Investing News Network in its original coverage. “That’s according to Niklas Kouparanis and Dr. Julian Wichmann, co-founders of the Bloomwell Group, a Frankfurt-based cannabis company that operates Germany’s largest digital platform for medical cannabis.”

“As someone who has been involved in Germany’s medical cannabis movement since its earliest days, it’s incredibly encouraging to see how far we’ve come in such a short time,” Kouparanis stated, according to the outlet.

The exponential growth in medical cannabis prescriptions in Germany during the specified time period is paralleled by dramatic growth in medical cannabis imports. During the first quarter of 2024, Germany’s medical cannabis industry imported just over 8 tonnes of products from other countries.

That jumped to nearly 57 tonnes in the third quarter of 2025, which is the most recent period reported by Germany’s Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM). Below is a graph of current import totals from BfArM:

The imported medical cannabis products are in addition to the domestically produced medical cannabis in Germany. Supply is struggling to keep up with demand, and the rise of Germany’s legal medical cannabis market has not gone unnoticed, with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry service providers scrambling to gain a foothold in Europe’s largest legal market.

Germany’s medical cannabis market was valued at over €2 billion in 2025, serving an estimated 800,000 patients. The average price for medical cannabis flower in Germany is currently €5.2 per gram.
