Morgan Heritage to Perform at the ICBC in Kauai, Hawaii
The International Cannabis Business Conference (ICBC) always brings the heavyweights, and this December is no exception.
I’m excited that a giant act in musical world will be joining the ICBC in beautiful Kauai, Hawaii this December for the conference VIP and After Parties, a five-person performance project who happened to win the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album – Morgan Heritage!
The group is a family concept including members Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan. The five artists are all siblings, and children of the 70s and 80s reggae legend Denroy Morgan.
No other Jamaican family (save the Marleys) garners the kind of world-wide attention and much-deserved musical respect that Morgan Heritage does. And their music? Definitely ganja inspired.
SFGate.com first announced that Morgan Heritage would perform at the Kauai ICBC and described the band’s newest release, “Reggae Night”:
The new single puts a modern spin on Jimmy Cliff‘s dance-infectious tune from 1983, replacing Cliff’s synthesized horns with modern rap rhythms. The video’s eye-popping yet simple animation also harkens back to the ’80s, offering colorful city and island settings paired with plain animations that’s almost like a throwback to Ralph Bakshi’s 1981 cartoon film American Pop.
As often happens with so many in the cannabis activist world, entanglement with the law because of cannabis prohibition has catapulted the group into action. In 2011, the senior patriarch of the family, Denroy was busted for cannabis. A lot of cannabis. (Seriously.) At the time, the incident was reasonably downplayed for the public. But now that it is 2017, the stigmatism has waned. Recently Morgan Heritage announced a partnership with Proper Rx, a medical cannabis delivery service for the San Francisco Bay Area based in Oakland.
And good for them. This movement has always been about ending incarceration for non-violent persons, and creating opportunities to engage in a safe and open marketplace. I, for one, am very much looking forward to Morgan Heritage bringing me good music AND good herb.
Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and party the world’s hottest reggae band at the International Cannabis Business Conference! It’s happening this December 1-3 on the tropic paradise of Kauai, Hawaii. Get your tickets now, before they all fly off the shelf!
