CO-FOUNDER MedCann GmbH
Dr. Pierre Debs, PhD
A scientist with 25+ years of academic research experience with genetic engineering, stem cell biology, somatic cell reprogramming and the endocannabinoid system. After a family member with cancer began successfully self-medicating with cannabis extracts, Pierre started searching scientific literature for clues as to why full spectrum cannabis extracts were helping, and found very little. At the same time, he started studying the endocannabinoid system in cancer cells culture, then in various stem cells. In 2015 he left the lab and co-founded MedCann GmbH with the goal to produce cannabis medicines giving German patients more choices, to drive medical cannabis awareness and support clinical research. By the end of July 2016, MedCann had successfully imported medical cannabis from Canada and started distribution to German pharmacies. Going from biological research direct to CEO of a cannabis start-up is an interesting adventure, more so in Germany. By the end of 2016, MedCann was acquired by Canopy Growth Corporation underscoring the importance of Germany to the growing European cannabis industry.
Germany has made great strides improving its cannabis laws in recent years, but there is still so much work to be done, as too many patients are still without safe access to a safe medicine. There was understandably great hope that Germany would start treating marijuana the same as any other medicine, after the country...

According to Michael Knodt, writer for Marijuana.com and speaker at the April 2017 International Cannabis Business Conference in Berlin, the turnout for this year’s event was brimming with...
Despite the nonsensical naysaying by Reefer Madness prohibitionists, medical cannabis now enjoys mainstream acceptance across the United States, (and support is increasing around the world). Whether it be for chronic pain relief, the treatment of post-traumatic stress symptoms, nausea caused by chemotherapy, or a whole host of medical issues, a supermajority of Americans agree that...
I suspect there are smirks emerging as some people are reading this article. “Welcome to the cannabis industry,” they might say. Just five short days following its opening days of sales, Hawaii medical cannabis dispensary Maui Grown Therapies ran out of cannabis – and the company seems a little pissed off. From The Maui News:...
This week scored a mark in history for medical cannabis patients in the Aloha State. Initial sales went into effect on Tuesday on Maui and Wednesday on Oahu at two of the state-licensed dispensaries on the island chain. Although eight dispensaries have been granted licenses by the state’s Department of Health, business owners had been...
